CALWORKS COLLABORATIVE

What is CalWORKS and the CalWORKS Collaborative?

CalWORKS is short for California Work Opportunities and Responsibility to KidS. It is a county assistance program that replaced the former AFDC and TANF welfare programs. Recipients receive monetary assistance and support services, as well as job readiness training. Support services include childcare, which is provided for all children 10 and under. Childcare will be provided while a parent is in job training, work activity, or in the process of getting off aid.

FVLC, along with five other community agencies, created a CalWORKS Domestic Violence Collaborative. The collaborative’s objective is to provide complete domestic violence services to CalWORKS recipients or CalWORKS-eligible clients in Alameda County, including emergency shelter, legal services, and job-readiness training.

The collaborative consists of the following agencies:

What services does the CalWORKS Collaborative provide?

  • Support services
  • Job readiness and employment services
  • 24-hour domestic violence crisis intervention
  • Long-term safety planning
  • Legal services
  • Shelter services

CalWORKS Client Assistance Fund

The CalWORKS Collaborative also includes a Client Assistance Fund. This fund is used to assist domestic violence victims/survivors and their children, who are CalWORKS recipients or CalWORKS-eligible, by providing goods and services that will help the client to obtain or maintain employment. Because the fund is limited, clients are asked to access other resources first whenever possible.
