Teen Dating Violence Awareness Week

February 2, 2009
• National Teen Dating Violence Awareness Week Kick
–Off Event: Meet & Greet! Hosted by
Alameda County Teen Dating Violence Task Force (ACTDVTF) this is an opportunity
to learn
about teen dating violence, the task force, meet task force members, talk
to youth leaders, and
meet others who are interested in teen dating violence prevention work.
Light refreshments will
be served. Event takes place from 4-5 p.m. at the Family Justice Center
on 470 27th Street;
Oakland, CA 94612. This event is open to the public.
• “Got Respect” 1,000 Ribbon Campaign – The Alameda
County Teen Dating Violence Task
Force will reach 1,000 people this week asking them to wear a PURPLE RIBBON
in support of
teen dating violence prevention and awareness.
• Youth Radio will facilitate the “Boss of Me” poster
campaign with several service agencies in
Alameda County.
• Family Violence Law Center will host a poster campaign at Excel,
Oasis and Street Academy
High Schools in Oakland.
• City of Berkeley Department of Public Health will host a poster
campaign at Berkeley High School
Health Center and Berkeley High School campus in Berkeley.
• Planned Parenthood of Golden Gate will host poster campaigns in
Hayward, Oakland-Eastmont
and Oakland-McArthur Planned Parenthood facilities.

• Alameda County Office of Education-Cal-SAFE program
will host presentations on teen dating
violence and abuse in the life skills class at the following locations:
Fruitvale Academy, Youth
Uprising and Burke Academy.
• City of Berkeley Department of Public Health will host a tabling
at Berkeley High School Health
Center and Berkeley High School campus in Berkeley.
• Impact Bay Area, Family Violence Law Center and Highland Sexual
Assault and Domestic
Violence Center will host a Personal Safety Workshop for youth ages 12-18
which will focus on
emotional and physical health. Youth will learn how to keep themselves
safe through self
defense, setting effective boundaries, and making healthy choices. This
FREE event takes place
from 4-6 p.m. at Humanist Hall on 390 27th St ; Oakland, CA 94612. Space

a talk about dating and sexual violence with your youth? This workshop
is for you! Family
Violence Law Center will host a workshop that shares resources and curricula
that youth
providers and parents can use to start conversations with teenagers on
the dynamics teen dating
abuse and violence. The workshop takes place from 3-5 p.m. at the Family
Justice Center; 470
27th Street; Oakland, CA 94612. This event is ideal for teachers, parents
and youth providers.

– as part of the “Got Respect” Campaign the Task
Force and its membership encourages everyone to wear purple on this Friday
to show your
support for teen dating violence awareness and prevention and honor the
youth that work hard to
end this epidemic.
• Youth leaders of the Family Violence Law Center’s RAP (Relationship
Abuse Prevention)
program from Street Academy will host “A Love that’s GRAND”
2nd Annual Teen Dating Violence

• “2nd Annual Anti-Violence Youth Poetry Slam and Art Show”
Come and hear the powerful
words of our youth as they speak out against teen dating violence. Hosted

Violence Law Center and the Alameda County Teen Dating Violence Task Force,
this event will
be held at Youth Uprising on 8711 McArthur Blvd. in Oakland from 5:30-7:30
