Annual Dinner 2008
Featuring Tracie Stafford, Mrs. California 2007
With performance by Brian Copeland,
Comedian, Actor, and Author of Not a Genuine Black Man
Thursday, October 16, 2008
Greek Orthodox Cathedral
4700 Lincoln Ave. in Oakland
6pm – Cocktails; 7pm – Dinner

Tracie Stafford shines as a mentor to women of
all ages and lifestyles because of her positive attitude and resilience
in overcoming adversity. Stafford grew up in poverty in a small
town that had little racial diversity, and after years of witnessing
her mother being abused, she herself entered into a verbally and
physically abusive relationship that lasted over five years. Love
and concern for her young daughter eventually caused Stafford to
leave the relationship, and she later remarried. In 2007, she was
crowned Mrs. California, becoming the first African American on
record, in the 21-year history of the Mrs. California United States
Pageant, to hold this title. Stafford has also served as the chair
of the Hands on Sacramento Leadership Council, the president of
the National Association of Women Business Owners, and was recently
appointed by Gov. Schwarzenegger to the California Small Business
Board. “Was I abused, penniless, and discriminated against?
Absolutely!,” Stafford relates. “But I refused to be
held back for long. I always had faith that there was a better tomorrow…
and there always was.”
